Christine knew after taking her first yoga class that yoga was what she was born to do. Yoga was a natural progression in her life. She has a BFA in Dance from University of Illinois, and had taught dance for many years. Then she retired to take care of her three beautiful children. She was certified in 2003 and continues to take master classes and continuing education classes. She has also taught the teacher training program for the Lotus Yoga Association.
She loves flowing from asana to asana to create a dance with movement and breath. Yoga brings peace and joy into her busy family life. She is very passionate about sharing these feeling with her students.
What brought you to yoga?
When I was pregnant with my third child, I could not sleep. My mother gave me a video "yoga for pregnancy. I would follow it sometimes at 2am. Finding myself relaxed and able to get a good night sleep after.
What element, quality, or technique of yoga do you find most fascinating and why?
I love vinyasa. Linking poses together to create a dance of breath and movement always inspires me.
What is your favorite pose and why?
One of my favorite poses is pigeon (eka pada kapotasana). A lot of our identity gets bound up in our hips. This hip opener is powerful and often results in an emotional release. And it feels good!
What qualities are needed to be a good yoga teacher? (Or what qualities are needed to be a good student)
I think in order to be a good teacher you must also be a good student. Neve stop learning, keep a possitive attitude, be mindful, go with the flow, have trust in yourself, and surrender.
