Dear TBY Yogis,

After careful thought and consideration, we have decided to postpone reopening our brick and mortar studio until Tuesday, September 8th, 2020 – the day after Labor Day. For now, we are going to focus on bringing you outdoor and live-streaming classes. More on that later, but first…

As always, we wish to be transparent with all of you. The last four months have certainly been a roller coaster ride on so many levels. I’m sure you can relate! The number of changes and pivots we have experienced since March are countless. As Julia and I were moving into our 5th year of owning TBY, 2020 was going to be a big year for us. We were finally hitting our stride in implementing the culture we wanted to bring to the studio: we had the teachers we wanted and things were moving along smoothly enough to take our business to the next level. We worked so hard to get to that point. There were so many sleepless nights, long days, and continuous effort not only by us but by staff who helped us get everything done.

And then COVID-19 happened. For the last four months, we have been in survival mode figuring out how we are going to eventually reopen. On the surface, it may seem simple: set up social distancing and have a good set of rules in place. Voila, It’s time to open! The process is exponentially more complicated than that. We are working overtime behind the scenes — and yes, operating at a deficit (for now) and doing what we can to get back on our feet. Thankfully, we’ve had help from the staff and of the yoga community. Some of our teachers have led online and outdoor classes and donated their pay to the studio. Additionally, we have more than twenty Yoga Videos on our website. These videos were donated by teachers for the express purpose of helping TBY stay afloat and also as a way to get students to use up their class packages before we reopen. What an amazing community of teachers we have! Additionally, our studio manager has stayed on and helped us in immeasurable ways and we’ve had some help with marketing as well. Further, we have had front desk staff and teachers jumping in to help us when we are feeling overwhelmed. All of these people are donating their time and energy to help our/your studio stay open.

The financial donations sent in by the community are appreciated in ways that we can’t convey. While it is not expected, many of you have mailed in checks, kept your monthly unlimited plans going, zeroed out your class packages,  purchased Zoom classes, donated to our Yoga Videos page, and more. The money you’ve sent in has helped us to pay rent, utilities, and purchase the necessary equipment to streamline our online yoga classes and implement necessary pandemic safety precautions in and around the studio.

For those who purchased class packages before we closed on March 15th, we’ve encouraged you to use them up before we reopen. We realize that you paid for in-person classes inside of a studio — and since a pandemic closed us down, we’ve done our best to bring you “product” so that you could use your class package while we’ve been closed. We understand this is not the service you expected, and we also know you must understand that we didn’t expect a global pandemic would close our doors. We are currently reaching out by phone and email to assist you in using up your class package. It would be extremely helpful if you’d use your classes before Labor Day to help ensure the future survival of TBY Yoga. We are sure that you understand that we will not be able to provide any refunds for class packages purchased prior to Covid-19. Again, we have given 100% effort, with the help of our staff, to bring you product options (videos, zoom classes, outdoor classes) so you can use up your classes purchased before we shut down. We appreciate your patience and understanding knowing we all want to survive this hardship.

Moving forward, here are some of the changes you will see at TBY Yoga when we reopen our physical doors on Tuesday, September 8th, 2020:

*Our in-person class schedule will change slightly as we will offer fewer classes allotting time for cleaning in between sessions and easing traffic flow. Our weekday, Studio Classes will be held at 9:30 am and 11:30 am. We will offer 6:00 pm evening classes. On weekends, we will have 8:00 am classes, 10:00 am classes, and 12:00 pm classes. We will also have a Sunday, 4:30 pm option.

*Mats will be safely spaced in our big studio. You will set your mat up on a designated piece of tape and classes will be limited to no more than 15 students plus a teacher.

*To help with social distancing and prevent traffic jams, we will have one door for entering only, the other door will be for exiting only.

*There will be acrylic partitions at the front desk to help with social distancing and to keep our staff members and you safe.

*We are overhauling our website with new touch-free options for class package purchases. You will also be able to reserve a class spot from home since we will have to cap the number of students in the class. This means no more walk-ins for now. We will also be changing our price structure to be slightly more expensive — which, unfortunately, is necessary due to the financial constraints we are facing to stay in business. All prices will be based on $12 Online Classes and $18 Studio Classes.

*Masks will be required to enter the studio and while walking around in the lobby, quiet room, and studio. You will be able to take your mask off once you are on your mat practicing, but if you need to leave your mat, you’ll put your mask back on. This is not negotiable and if wearing a mask doesn’t work for you, then you will not be able to enter. We have masks for sale if you forget yours, but call ahead and we will arrange to meet you outside.

*We have plenty of soap and paper towels for handwashing and, we will also provide hand sanitizer.

*IF YOU’RE NOT COMFORTABLE COMING BACK TO A STUDIO YET, WE ARE HERE FOR YOU! As many of you already know, we have transformed the small studio into a live streaming yoga studio for teaching online. This change will be permanent and we will continue our online offerings for the foreseeable future.

Right now, our biggest desire is to get our yoga studio open in the safest way possible.  We couldn’t have gotten as far as we have without the help we have received, and we will continue to call upon our staff and community to help us as we move towards opening our doors again.  Thank you so much for taking the time to read this and for your continued support.

Very Sincerely,

Andrew Gurvey & Julia Jonson
